Have you let self-doubt stopped you from going after your dreams?

I’ve struggled with self-doubt my whole life, but I didn’t let that stop me from becoming a Pilates Teacher and a Pilates Teacher Training.

The first time I really remember it is when I was 13 and for years I so badly wanted to become a drum majorette. When I went to high school and had a chance to try out, BUT WAS I GOOD ENOUGH?

I would spend hours outside in the garden practicing, even to the point where there was actually a dead patch of grass!

I was this young lanky girl with arms and legs longer than she could handle, and I looked like a drowned rat in my uniform!

You CAN become a Teacher / Instructor and Succeed Too

So did I do it?

YES, I DID IT. I GOT IN. And I loved every minute of it….. 😍

Another time when I had to work through my own self-doubt is when I joined the police force. It took me 3 attempts to get it. It was all I ever wanted to be growing up. I refused to give up on my dream and I worked hard to develop the skills I needed to get through the assessments and I spent 8 years as a Police officer in Devon and Cornwall Constabulary and eventually left because of PTSD (that’s another story!).

When I look back at those experiences, I can recall ALL the self-doubt I felt and the fear and all that negative talk going on in my head, but I didn’t let those thoughts stop me from going for what I wanted EVEN though I SO SCARED!! 😟

The next place my passion drew me to was getting my Pilates Teaching qualification and then my Yoga. I loved how Pilates and Yoga made me feel and I wanted to share that. And YES, I went through that whole self-doubt again, but knowing I succeeded all those other times helped me to pursue my teaching career, even though I was absolutely petrified of standing up in front of people!

I am so grateful that at these key stages I learned how to move through the self-doubt because I am so passionate about what I do because I love teaching and helping people to have better quality lives and I get to teach other people how to teacher Pilates and Yoga too so they can go out and help others and it’s the ripple effect that I can have on others that brings me so much joy and satisfaction… 💘

AND none of that would have happened had I listened to those self-doubt monsters in my head. 🤯

👉 You really have no idea how this journey can progress or change your life (and everyone you help through your teachings).

✅ I believe the secret in these events in my life was PASSION. I REALLY REALLY wanted to become a sub-leader, police officer and teacher and I wasn’t prepared to take no for an answer or make up any excuses as to why I couldn’t do it. ✅

Was it easy❓ ABSOLUTELY not! I worked my arse off, but when you really want something you’ll do WHATEVER it takes! (I remember my Pilates assessment was 2 pm on a Sunday and I had to work the night shift – so I got home at 7:30 am, went to bed for a couple of hours and Paul drove us to South Hampton for my assessment!).

If your passion is calling you to become a Pilates or Yoga teacher, it’s okay to have self-doubt, in fact it’s normal, BUT what you must not do is let it stop you fulfilling your dreams!!
